The Summer Reset & Gratitude: Why Stepping Away Helps Us Show Up Better

The Summer Reset & Gratitude: Why Stepping Away Helps Us Show Up Better

"While I've been away, time hasn't stopped, and neither has business. Life keeps moving, and so does real estate. The key is making sure we keep pace without losing ourselves along the way."

Summer in Manhattan has its own rhythm. For me, August has always been about pressing reset and living in gratitude.

I was fortunate enough for the second year in a row to rent the most wonderful cottage in Wainscot. My days are spent writing, visiting friends, clients, and even a college friend from 40 years ago. I have had a chance to enjoy days at the beach, catch up on reading, cook more than usual, and make time for activities that bring balance and perspective. Thinking about my two beautiful great-nieces and looking forward to seeing them again.

While I've been away, the world hasn't stood still. Buyers have continued searching, sellers have continued planning, contracts have been negotiated, and the market has kept moving. Just like life, real estate never truly pauses. It evolves every day, creating new opportunities for those who are prepared when the moment arrives.

It's easy to believe that being constantly available is the key to success. I've learned the opposite is often true. Taking time to recharge isn't stepping away from your work. It's investing in your ability to do it well. The clarity gained from slowing down often leads to better decisions, stronger relationships, and a renewed appreciation for the work we do.

Some of the best conversations happen over dinner with friends, during a walk on the beach, or while sharing a quiet cup of coffee. Those moments remind us that success isn't measured only by transactions. It's measured by the relationships we build, the trust we earn, and the life we create along the way.

As much as we dedicate ourselves to our careers, we also have to dedicate ourselves to our own well-being. Taking care of ourselves isn't a luxury. It's a responsibility. When we're rested, inspired, and grounded, we're better equipped to guide our clients, support our families, be present for our friends, and show up as the best version of ourselves.

As Labor Day approaches, Manhattan will soon shift into one of its busiest seasons. Buyers and sellers will return from summer, new opportunities will emerge, and the city will once again move at full speed. I'll be returning recharged, grateful for the reset, and excited to help clients navigate another dynamic season in the New York City real estate market.

Whether your reset comes from a weekend away, a walk on the beach, time with family, a great book, or simply unplugging for a few hours, I hope you've found the opportunity to pause this summer. Investing in yourself is never time lost. It's what allows us to give our very best to the people who matter most.

As the seasons change, I'm looking forward to reconnecting, continuing the conversations that matter, and helping clients make thoughtful, informed decisions in one of the most exciting real estate markets in the world.

Have a wonderful remainder of the summer, and I'll see you this fall.

As I always say history isn't behind us; we are living in it each and every day.
